Got a new house, and a 40yd x 20yd that was patchy and decided to get it tilled. My plan is to throw top soil down, then till again, then seed and roll… what am I missing?
Good plan. Use a good quality seed, and invest in some humic acid to keep that soil healthy for the new grass

Should of done this in the fall then seeded with fescue. Unless you plan to seed with bermuda. You’ll have a back full of crabgrass come summer. Unfortunately

If the soil is clean enough, I might not even topsoil. Consider leveling, laying seed, and then covering with peat and compost. Also if within your budget, consider irrigation now before you go any further.

Nothing to do but pray for rain and invite the neighborhood over for a game of mud football.

Good starter fert, mesotrione, and kept it moist. Good luck!
