Starting seeds part 1 – sowing lettuce
In this first round I'm sowing 7 varieties:
Divina green butterhead
Red Salade Bowl
Red Grenoble
Red Grenadine oakleaf
4 Seasons
Kamikaze batavia
Red Spotted
I don't use any special soil mixture in fact it's old compost from last year made up of perlite and vermiculite.
I make sure the compost is evenly damp before sowing and then I spray the seeds with a fine mist several times.
I put a cover over the container leaving a few gaps for air circulation and place it on my basement water heater. It get a steady and gentle heat of around 20-22°C. The seeds should germinate within 3 days.
Next week i'll start off some herbs in the same way.
