I love your guys movement I hope everything works out exactly how you want it to you guys deserve it.
Good morning Luke! Tfs😊
What I do it take just a regular bag of peat moss and sift the big pieces from it…with a spaghetti strainer from the Dollar Tree (larger holes). Then add however much perlite that I want for a good mixture. It's a lot cheaper than buying seed starter mix. I can still use the unsifted larger pieces of peat in my raised beds.
Those plants in those trays are supposed to be green & stout, not yellow & spindly. This is what happens when you start stuff like tomatoes way too early in a greenhouse, especially in Michigan.
Great info! My problem with seed starting is lack of good light. I have tried those light things – little to no luck. (lack of room for over head lighting and if I found room then I would need heat mats). Would love to have a sm greenhouse…how are you keeping yours warm? It's still quite chilly in MI.
Great episode, Luke!! I know that you've spoken of these two things before, but l might have added removing the humidity dome and taking your trays off the heat mats once things start to germinate. I've had a lot of people make this mistake. That might have been worth a quick mention. Always enjoy your content…. Thanks again!!
You need a video on what to do when seedlings aren't doing well. I'm not sure if some of my peppers just need something or did I give it too much, they are stunted to me
so excited! i started some of my seeds (i just couldnt wait) and three days later they started sprouting! love migardener seeds!
As always great information. Much appreciated
How long can we keep a pack of seeds? I still have some as old as 2020
Seedtime link??? I can't seem to find it???
I used hydrogen peroxide for 5-6 years old seeds to germinate and it worked well for me…
Ok question: The tray that had the algae on it, what do you do with it now? Do you toss the soil or will it be usable once it dries out? (Newbie 1st time gardener)
I changed my normal routine of starting seeds this year and bought MIgardeners' heating mat. What a game changer! I have great germination and am now not too concerned about getting my seeds started late for my zone! I typically start seeds in February, and this year didn't get started until last week! Thanks for making the heat mats so affordable! I look forward to new videos in the mornings while I am enjoying a cup of coffee when the farm is still sleeping! Thanks Luke and the MIgardener team!
The soil with the correct water reminds me of pie dough when you're gathering it to wrap in plastic for a rest in the fridge.
So how much water should you add to the bottom tray?
I think I sifted too much!!! I wish I had this video a few weeks ago lol
How often do u recommend watering the soil when seed starting until seeds germinate?
roots don't like air gaps? I thought they(roots) breathe oxygen?
This has become one of my favorite gardening YouTube channels. Tons of good information and no gatekeeping or elitism.
I use the dollar tree half basket it has about half in holes. Pro mix doesn’t usually have too much extra large wood in it.
seeds prefer some compaction
I’ve listened to Luke for over 5 years now and bought most my seeds from MI Gardener. I listen to a bunch of older videos every year because my brain can’t contain all the gems of information Luke shares with us. 🤯It’s a blessing to have all this information at my fingertips. Blessings to all.
How do I know when it’s time to up pot my seedlings?
This is really great information. I’m new to gardening and need a little help with organizing everything. Does anyone know of any free gardening apps that doesn’t require a subscription?
Luke – when to start, & how often & how much fertilizer do you add to your seed starts if you don't use fertilizer in the seed starting mix? Thanks & God bless in advance. ❤❤❤❤
I refuse to sift! I just start off with potting mix and pick out the big wood pieces for my compost pile. I liked the seed time app, especially how you can map everything out. But I was too far into my process to learn a new one. Maybe next year!
Can I ask: what fertilizer ratio would you recommend for seedlings? I would think it would have to be heavier on the phosphorus to get better root development? But somehow all the (vegetable/herb garden and all purpose) fertilizer I can find here in the Netherlands contains no or very little phosphor 🤔 Am I thinking wrong?
What’s the thought on pelleted seeds? Is that something you guys would ever do?
Great tips Luke!!😊
Hi Luke, what do you think about gardening by the moon?
What should I do with last year’s soil that my cats peed in? Do I need to start fresh, or is there something that can neutralize it and reuse it?
How long do seeds last? I have some from a few years ago I bought… is this a time to err on the side of adding more seeds than usual to a cell?
I will use all my seedlings by carefully putting them in another container instead of discarding them because there are too many. 😅
i really like Luke's seed starting table. i think i'm going to make one.
Appreciate you sharing your knowledge to save us peons from making so many mistakes 😅
Oh ! Trifecta + … I'm using it for the first time in my little seed starting pots. Everything is growing great, looks strong. Not having to use fish fertilizer is wunnerful
