We’ve been removing what we can by hand and making a mess of our lawn in the process.

What are the best organic ways to kill it outside of removing the root system.

You’ve gotta remove it by the bulbs. I’ve had no luck with herbicides. They always come back.

When you dig them up, you don’t have to throw out all the dirt, too. What I do is dig it up, and pull them out by the bulbs (make sure to loosen up the soil so it doesn’t break), pull them out, and put the soil and grass back in.

Prepare to get them coming back next year. You won’t get all of the bulbs, but it’ll be less each year if you keep on top of it.

    Source: third year doing this

Also, idk wtf that is in the last pic, but it ain’t onion grass that I’ve seen before.

  3. Organic? Weed torch. Effective? Any 3 or 4 way herbicide that’s safe for lawns.

  4. Previous owners of my house had a whole portion of the lawn of just snowdrops. Spent spare time over an entire month last spring to go through all the soil and remove before laying grass seed. Managed to get 90% of it out on first try, but it will work.

Low key love mowing this and smelling the fresh onion air.

I hate those fuckers. And I’m a guy who finds weed pulling by hand therapeutic. I spend hours just drinking couple beers and be out in the sun pulling weeds. Onion grass though…!&$@)@“!$ Annoying!

I read somewhere that if you keep clipping the green shoots, the bulbs eventually run out of energy to support growth and die. I’ve got a small area covered with black slate chips and onion grass is peeking through. Gonna test this theory this spring and see if it’s true.
