So I got this pearl and jade pothos a couple of weeks ago (around 2-3) and she’s been living on one of my bookshelves with no grow light. She gets indirect light but multiple hours. I water her whenever the first 2 inches of dirt is dry and honestly forget to water my planties often.

I was doing my plant chores and noticed a couple of yellowing leaves and naturally my brain freaks out. I’ve combed over this plant with a bright flash light and put my glasses on to inspect for pests. I didn’t see anything but idk.

Could it be thrips? Lack of light? I moved her under a grow light in a different spot tonight. The last picture it where she was before. No clue if it’s north facing or south

  1. Hmmm. I had this happen to my pothos. I actually thought it may be from TOO MUCH light. I’m not sure, though, because they grow in tropical locales and thrive. I did find that my pothos HATED neem oil. Every leaf looked burned after I treated my collection.

Mine did it when it was too close to a grow light. They were also older leaves. The leaves a little further back from the light look great.

    That looks like toxicity…
    Did you fertilize it?

Water… make sure to use bottled or filtered. If using tap water, let it sit overnight so the flouride and other dangerous chemicals will evaporate first. Regular tap water can burn or kill certain house plants.

You can take your plant to a nursery, they can tell you.
It also may be the soil.
    Good luck.

It looks like you bought a plant with thrips. Light burn would show as beige patches and the foliage that was closest to the light source.

Could you get pictures of more of the leaves? Undersides preferably but tops and bottoms is ideal. I don’t see frass here (poop) so im not convinced that it’s Thrips. A couple specs here and there, but since you repotted im thinking thats just soil.

Did you water after repotting? If so, was it immediately after? Or did you wait a few hours, etc?

This section does look like Thrips damage, but I don’t feel confident enough in that ID when I don’t have more evidence other than damage.

Variegated plants have increased light requirements due to having less chlorophyll. This is definitely not getting sufficient light exposure. These should almost thoroughly dry prior to watering. Additionally, photosynthesis is a process that uses water, so plants near a window will dry the pot more quickly. This is optimal for root health.

This has compromised root health from the factors mentioned above. This needs to be very near a window. 💚
