Hey everyone, long story short, I just bought my first home and it’s very obvious I just bought it (if you just look at my lawn).

I want my lawn to look like my neighbors or ya know the same idea: soft, full, weedless and green!

Besides operating a lawnmower, I have no idea what to do or where to start. I’ll take all the help, simple advice and advance things. The ins and outs.

Thanks!

Have you tried asking your neighbor how he does it?

There’s 25+ years of info on the internet. Proper research will help you a lot more on such a broad topic rather than quick answers on Reddit.

Google for a lawn maintenance calendar for your area and grass type (cool season or warm season – google that if it didn’t make sense). A lawn maintenance calendar will tell you what to do and when. Performing the right tasks at the right time is essential and remember that this a journey and not instant gratification. Get a little better and learn something new every year.

Start with a good pre-emergent/post emergent spray. They have easy to follow guides for whatever climate you’re at. You have lots of weeds already so get a surfactant and kill killer and start spraying…. If you don’t want to bother hire a company!

  6. This almost looks like the previous owner was intentionally trying to grow only clover… is that a thing? I feel like I’ve seen that before…

My advice is this… if you are going to try this on your own, know that it is not possible for your grass to look like your neighbors this year. You are looking at a multi year recovery plan. Less is more with fertilizer. Don’t overdo it.
