So this little fella popped up in my redfoot tortoise enclosure. I can't for the life of me figure out what I would have fed him that would have had this for a seed. It's not papaya, I don't think it's mango? Environment is 70% humidity minimum, average temp around 85°. F. It's growing in Cypress mulch, about an inch deep. It is under an LED grow light.

Could be a mango, too. But the seeds are huge, don’t think you’d miss one of those.

That’s definitely a mango seedling. I’ve grown a mango plant from seed before and it looked exactly like this. Just dig a bit, its probably still attached to its seed. Mango seeds are huge (and so are avocado seeds, so that’s easy to rule out too).

  3. I’ve grown both mangoes and avocados before (Uganda). Definitely mango. Have pretty wide spread roots so I’d check on that if I were you.

Too hard to tell this young. My first thought was it’s a peach seedling, but I’m late for an appointment & don’t have time to look better…

I feel like it looks like some kind of citrus. Have you given your tortoise any orange slices that might have had seeds?

My vote is for avocado too. How you got the thing to germinate there, god only knows.
