It’s called semi-hydro and if you put LECA or PON in there, almost any plant will thrive! I have a Christmas cactus in one, two calatheas, an alocasia and two satin pothos all in pon in self-watering pots and they’re all thriving!!!

Ferns, peace lilies, African violets, etc. Any plant that likes consistently moist soil and does not need a drying period.

I have one for my begonia rex and now she won’t stop growing. Aroids WILL NOT like this type of pot, I can literally neglect my aroids for two weeks and they’ll still be healthy and happt. Use it for thirstier plants like begonias, calatheas and ferns.

Spathiphyllum and Chlorophytum too, they can even be kept in full hydro.

  6. I’ve got a little fern in one, it’s doing great

That specific plant showing in pic is likely peperomia, anyway. Just to point things up.

I’m glad you asked about this. I see these all the time and often wondered the same thing.

Hoya, pepper vines, peperomias, cat grass, put them in a plastic pot and then put that pot inside that pot

I have a staghorn in one and it’s the first fern I haven’t tortured to death. 6+ months and going strong!

I would put an Alocasia with pon or leca in it
