received my seed order and was surprised and very happy to have been sent an empty seed packet for collecting seeds in the fall! š so happy you not only talk the talk but walk the walk! thank you!
I am still 8 weeks out from my last frost date (May 30) and I just want to make sure that the late March rule is still ok to apply for me?
I live in Michigan, windy, temperature in the 30's with snow off & on all this week. 1st week of April is the time to plant in a greenhouse. Frost danger is not over in Michigan until the middle of May. Planting seeds in those containers is like planting seeds in a field right now, the ground is way too cold & wet, it would take weeks for them to germinate, that is if they don't rot first. You should be waiting another month to begin planting those seeds outdoors in those containers….This is a waste of time, effort, energy & money planting anything this early in Michigan.
Thank you for this! I always need a reminder!
Lordy it's snowing now 8 inches n rising. So sad, 60 last week. šā¤
Lettuce, radishes, peas and spinach for anyone who doesnāt have 21 minutes to watch
When can arugula be planted?
I have a free seedtime account.
I use the free version of Seedtime. It's helped me to keep my plant planting and harvesting planning up to date.
I've been watching from Grand Rapids for a while now. Thank you for all your advice for Michigan gardening. I ordered seed from you for the first time, to which I am EXCITED!! Last year I went to the local nursery and had very little started with seed. My question is, I ordered some things that are early crops like the peas. I know it's your busy season and I think I should get my order soon. But will I have enough time to plant peas yet? I also know I need to move on the other seeds I ordered, tomatoes, peppers, and my strawberry plants, etc. I will get better at planning ahead, lol.
Again, thanks for all the advice. I am learning a lot and have plans to double my garden from last year. So you can bet I will be watching you for a while! I also watch James Prigioni for guidance, so I am glad he is using your seeds and promoting your work!
Seems like he just likes planting seeds.
I imagine he is successfully planting seeds indoors too
100 degrees tomorrow! Iāll plant these things in October.
My curly leaf lettuce fed my chickens all winter here in NC with no cover. Cut and came again!
ā¤Potatoes went in 2 beds last week so radishes, salad mix, peas are in container gardening outside – some with frost covering just in case the weather dips too low. What are you growing in your greenhouse right now? Mineās not heated so I start most seeds indoors, but I did start some tree seeds in the greenhouse.
Won't squirrels ruin that beautiful soil? I have so much issue with them. I have a fence for bunnies, but I'm helpless when it comes to squirrels
