Based in UK, lawn is only a couple of years old and have managed to stay on top of it for weeds and keep it nice. However over the last week a ton of these have sprung up all over the lawn. What are they and what I am in for? Thanks in advance

  1. Looks like maple (Acer) seedlings

ETA: …and they’ll be gone once you start cutting the lawn.

  2. Unless the cotyledons (seed leaves) on a plant are particularly distinctive, they aren’t very good for knowing what it is. You’d have to wait until it has some true leaves and then get another pic for an accurate ID.

While it could be anything as one commenter said, the sheer volume means they are probably seedlings from a maple or another tree and the ones in your lawn will be killed by mowing. They travel quite a ways though so they probably will show up other places.

Sycamore, (European), or maple. Though could be Ash. See what trees you have around you. But if you don’t want them just mowed over, they are to young to survive it

In the Uk this sort of Maple is probably a Sycamore – Acer pseudoplatanus. The young shoots and seedlings can poison horses.

As the others said, probably a tree’s seedling.

But another option that happened to us, was we had been throwing bird food seeds on the lawn (or it fell from the feeder) & one year got a bunch of pumpkin & sunflower seedlings popping up!

Since you’re in the uk,this really looks like a maple seedling.
You can wait until the first true leaves appear and transplant it somewhere else !
