Hi, I’ve been growing a Honey Mango from a seed for a number of months and it’s been doing very well until now. After not growing over the winter, new leaves finally sprouted but unfortunately have become deformed and are now dead/dying.

Would love a possible explanation of why this occurred and how I could avoid it in the future.

The leaves started off looking as healthy as the rest of the plant, but quickly I noticed some abnormalities. They began to curl inwards and eventually formed a strange concavity, progressively getting more severed until they started to die (the older leaves had no such issues).

The plant is kept on my bedroom windowsill with a grow light, watering once the top 2-3 inches is dry and regularly misted. It was also recently fertilised with ‘Miracle Gro All Purpose Concentrate’ and repotted this week due to the substrate becoming quite hydrophobic.

New mango leaves are often a different colour and slightly curled up like that until they harden and get bigger. Check watering and drainage in the pot to make sure the bottom of the roots aren’t staying soggy, which can cause the new growth to die off. The top few inches of the pot may be drying out, but the middle and bottom of the pot may be staying wet for longer.
