Laid this Sir Walter buffalo last September (spring, southern hemisphere) and it died quickly after some some very (extended) wet weather. The soil is clay and there was little to no drainage in parts of it. I didn't apply a topsoil and only started aerating when I realised it was dying. I also probably only dug out and replaced about 10cm of soil.

I am wondering if I should: A) try again but with better soil (sandy loam), dig deeper (20cm) and use a French drain B) give up and use a high quality fake turf C) having a floating deck installed to match the upper deck

Any ideas appreciated!

I’m not a lawncare expert at all so I can’t speak on the grass aspect. But personally, that looks like a really small space that I’d either add a floating deck like you said, or use that space for some gardening. No idea what would be some good plants for it though, being in Australia
