I just ordered a pallet of Bermuda sod (middle Tennessee) and I wondering if I should refuse delivery. It looks brown and seems dead already. Thoughts? Or will it grow and get greener?

what are the temps like there? bermuda can be installed dormant but if the roots are dry then obviously that’s a problem lol

You should speak to the company, but here’s my personal experience out here in zone 10B – my bermuda looks dead and brown. We’re warming up, but at nights it gets cold so it’s still dormant. I started mine from seed because my lawn came with tall fescue and it kept dying off in large patches during the summer. The fescue and the bermuda have mixed (sacrilege, I know) but it’s mostly green throughout the year. When the fescue is in full swing during the winter, it doesn’t look perfect, but there aren’t any glaring holes.

So it does take a lot to kill bermuda, but you should still have a talk with the company because as I said, my experience is only after the bermuda got established.

  3. It’s likely dormant. Look at the stolons closer to the soil level and see if you see any green

Looks like dormant bermuda. It’ll green up in the next few weeks

If it’s camel gray, it’s dormant.

If it’s cooked beef gray, it’s dead.

    Looks dormant to me.
