My lawn went from looking better than average to over run with what I think is clumping fescue. Do I have any hope? It took 2 years to over run me. Third picture was 2 years ago. It’s everywhere now. Located in Iowa.
1. Its forage or coarse type tall fescue, or k31. “Clumping” fescue doesn’t mean anything… All fescues, besides creeping red fescue, grow in a *bunched* growth habit. (Bonus: Tall fescue isn’t even technically considered a fescue any more)
2. You spread seed with coarse type tall fescue in it. Because even coarse type tall fescue doesn’t spread like that. The bunches essentially just get bigger, and rarely they can split off, but they’ll still be right next to each other. If you dethatched at any point, that could also cause it to spread if you went deep enough.
3. Please mow higher. That mowing height is making your whole lawncare experience more difficult, including your difficulties with coarse tall fescue.

I have a similar problem. My lawn looks like shit. Can I just go all in with the fescue?

What seed blend were you using?
