It’s mid-March and it’s time to check in on those seedlings sown last month. Lots of things need potting on. I’ve been a bit lax, so things were becoming pot bound. It’s very easy to get overwhelmed at this time of year, so it feels great to tick that job off the list.

No sooner am I potted on, I’m sowing yet more things! Succession sowings of peas, more brassicas and more shallots. It’s all go in the garden now and April is only going to get busier!

I made a mistake in last week’s video, planting in the fruit cage, and have to correct it this week.

I also reveal the exciting plot news I’ve teased recently. There’s huge changes coming to The Farmyard Garden soon. I’m excited, are you?

  1. Going for world veg domination huh Clare 😂That is going to be a LOT of beds to water but some wonderful yields so woohoo 🥳I think maybe start things a little later next year to avoid the seedling shuffle .Everything catches up 🙂I'm only just starting most seeds but I'll still get some good harvests but everything's looking good so great job 🥇

  2. Ooh we have a Blue Diamond garden centre not that far from me. Seriously wished i'd bought more cloves so, this might be great if they still have any.

  3. Everything is growing great, Clare.
I've been shuffling seedlings around for a few weeks. There's never enough space 😅
The plot expansion will be brilliant for growing more food.
Your loofahs look good. Mine seems to be more in check now, plus I'm doing a little experiment.
Quite a few of my sweet peppers and chilli seeds seem to be refusing to germinate. I'm not sure if it's the seeds, but I shall be patient, and hopefully, they'll show.
My garlic still hasn't come up, maybe its rotted? Unfortunately, I don't have a local blue diamond garden centre. Otherwise, I'd have definitely bought some elephant garlic 😊

  4. Last year I bought myself for Valentine's day 🙈 a cheap little chainsaw. Cost around £20 OMG I love it and I've done jobs I wouldn't have even dreamed of doing. My garden looks less over grown from trees surrounding my home. It actually made me realise I needed to invest in a few pieces to make my life easier.

You need to set up a left handed business

My God my seedlings are struggling to get 2nd leaves. What do you do?

  5. You tube ate my comment!
Yes, it's all a bit mad from now on!
    Like your organised greenhouses.
It's a shame it's so hard to be left handed (half my family are!).
    Your seedlings are amazing.
Best of luck with the plot extension.

  6. Your plants are amazing! Mine are far behind. And congratulations on the new plot. How thrilled you must be!😅

  7. I have never seen elephant garlic for sale in the local garden centre. What a great find. My elephant garlic never came up either so these ones that you have that have all that new growth should be great.

The greenhouse is now looking very full and so green. Those sweet peas are unusual aren't they. I'm sure thy will look stunning but yes they do look quite strange at the moment. Those leggy sweet peas will be fine with a pinch out.

That little chainsaw can cut through wood really easily. I might invest in one as I do find some branches at the plot and in my garden need a little more power than the manual saw.

That's a good idea to put the pot into the new pot when transplanting. I have never thought of doing that but its so obvious. I always dread pinching them out though. Its like cutting their heads off isn't it but I'm going to try it with one of my peppers this year and see the difference. Your aubergines look great. What a shame about your sweet potato. So nice of Jen to send you out another.

The extension to your growing space will look fantastic and is the right decision if you are self sufficient. One corner will not be enough but the whole bed will be.

Lovely update Clare. Have a good week

    Ems x 😀

  8. Oh my your plants are all looking fantastic!! The grow light sure is going a good job too 💡

Oooh very exciting plans! Golly you’re going to have so much extra space!! Soon you’ll be a small market garden 😄

Have a lovely week Clare 🥰

  9. Hi Clare, your plot is looking very productive. Another great video with plenty of useful information. Thanks for sharing and take care 😊

  10. It’s certainly gone crazy overnight eh!! Thanks for the mention hunnie! Hopefully the sweetpeas will be as magnificent as they were last year

  11. Hi Claire. Your garden looks absolutely immaculate!! I'm trying to clear out my tunnel. I got a good bit done yesterday. Now, at some stage, i will have to get a setup like your fruit cage! Cant believe you have a tulip out already 😊 Sinéad from beautiful sunnt Ireland

  12. Good grief – that elephant garlic is an absolute bargain – you could just grow one or two to save for the cloves for next year! Were they from Trentham? Your chillies are waaaaaaay ahead of mine! Love that chainsaw but like you – I think I'd be terrified 😀Oh crikey – I've just seen your luffas! I got really excited when I saw the second sweet potato and decided I might try the same thing – Mike's just told me we ate our spare one last Friday 😂 Looking forward to seeing the new plot area progress. Well done!

  13. The seedlings all look fantastic! And wow- good for you all on going bigger. Will look forward to seeing how you decide to build it out.

Here in upstate New York my outdoor bins are still frozen solid, and the ice on the lake is just starting to retreat. But I have lettuce and spinach seeds going in the front porch bin. In a couple of weeks it will be time to seize the day and plant more greens and some peas!

  14. How wonderful, Clare! Everything looks amazing. Your seedlings are definitely happy. My luffas are coming along 😊, not as far as yours yet, lol. And what exciting news about the expansion. Duncan + sweet corn = expansion 😅. I can't wait to see how it comes along!

  15. All your seedlings and plants look so healthy.
And I can't wait to see how your new extension of your plot is going to look

  16. I’ve just potted on my brassicas and am now looking for cheap flights to your kitchen 😂. All stilliness aside Clare it is all looking simply amazing. Oh that’s excellent for the elephant garlic 🧄 mine is getting there but yes it’s slow. Have a super duper week, Ali ☔️☔️🇨🇦

  17. Omg Clare 😮 your seedlings look amazing. They are so big already, and even being potbound, they look quite healthy.
Good for you to extend your growing space. ❤

  18. Oh my goodness. I have never seen so much potting on. The growth of your plant since February is astonishing. Looking forward to the extension of your plot.

  19. I wondered where your fence was at the start of the video. Looking at your kitchen I can see why you need to extend 😂
My kitchen is exactly the same and all my husband hears me say is “I need another grow light”.
Lovely update, everything is growing beautifully. I’ve got hundreds of flower seedlings, but will be going hungry because I’ve neglected the veg so far (apart from peppers).

  20. Well done. You seedlings look so amazing. And wonderful you able to plant more veggies as you got a big garden. Some of us don’t have a big garden but we still can planted in the container in the summer months eating from our own backyard. There no need for us to complain how expensive the veggies in the supermarkets but try to grow them yourself putting on gloves 🧤 to avoiding hands and nails dirty if we afraid getting dirty hands 😊😂. I must say more and more people trying growing vegetables in their backyard or in the containers, thanks for all of you who able making videos in the YouTube to encourage people to be more active growing veggies not just setting in the garden drinking coffee or tea but more enjoying the flowers and the veggies 😂. There no excuses we don’t have a big garden or backyard. Yes, some of us as a hobby gardeners things can be looked so messy in our garden with our projects who care, look at it as a challenge. when we are done it will be beautiful and lovely 🥰 and than we can enjoy drinking coffee or tea admiring it all.😊( right)😂❤❤❤

  21. I’ve only just sown my chillis and toms on a heated Matt so hope they catch up in time to fruit !

  22. Hi Clare, I thought my chillis were doing okay but they are shamed by yours, that's a nice big extension to your growing space.
