I live in the south east of the US in Charlotte, NC, a Piedmont area.
The yard looked similar to this when we bought it. I spent the first year over seeding, aerating and fertilizing. Sprayed the dandelions and all that jazz. Last year I didn’t do much to it and it looks worse than when we bought it.
It is Bermuda grass and I hate that shit. My plan is to kill it and plant rye grass.
I plan to put black plastic on my yard once Bermuda comes in so I can kill that shit. What you see now is weeds and specks of rye or something here and there.
Please help me with some advice on what to do with my yard. I do not want to keep the Bermuda grass. And I would like to kill the weeds now but not sure that will matter when I kill the Bermuda. I plan on putting down sheets of black plastic to kill the Bermuda, I saw someone say they did it like that.
Thank you for your time.

Wrong time of year. I would use broad leaf herbicides this summer to make it look ok and then do a renovation this Fall. If you try to grow new grass now especially to stage a coup against bermuda it would still die in the heat this summer with new/shallow roots.
