With more and more people wanting to grow their own food to reduce their food costs and eat cleaner, the need for container gardening has increased exponentially. With that increase comes a flurry of confusion around how you actually grow fruit and vegetables in containers. More specifically, a big aspect of container gardening is the soil health within the pot you are using. Being able to build healthy soil in containers, like you do in the ground or in raised beds, is equally as important to the healthy growth of your plants and nutrient density you get from your harvests. Join my in this video where I show you how I build incredibly healthy soil in containers using only leaves and compost.

  1. What a coincidence. I’m experimenting with this method in my regular garden. It’s on a slight slope so last fall I spread leaves on it to hold the soil. In March I’ll spread my compost on a thin layer of these same leaves. We’ll see how that goes.
Am also enjoying seeing your homestead rise out of the ground on your Tamakoa channel.

  2. I have worms in my grow bags and pots that get in the containers with homemade compost. I don't fertilize my containers either. Mix leaf mould with old potting soil, a bit of top soil and some compost to fill the containers. Mulch with leaves.
