Found this on the floor of garden center. Would it be better to take the leaves off and stick them in dirt? Or leave them on the stem in dirt? I looked around and the closest thing it looked like was called elephant ear? So it could be that if that helps

Take the bottom leaves off
yup portulicaria afra, remove the lower leaves, this is a variegated variety which is much slower growing and therefore will be much slower to root so be patient.
