We checked out hives this past week. Got up in the 50s and there was no activity. Looks like they swarmed, but left behind a lot of honey. Our nei6said all of theirs left too. It's like they knew the winter was going to be really bad here. We put out 2 boxes up in different tree stands, praying we get some swarms. Our biggest hives came from swarms. Between us and our neighbor, we most always catch a few in the spring. If they are protected from high winds they should stick around. We need to either build a wind shield where our hives are, or just move them to a more protected place. Either way, we need electric around them because of the bear. Already bad enough we have to patrol for skunks. They love eating the bees.
Praying you have success with your bees. They are fun to watch and do give us the most delicious honey. Ours get a lot of clover, but they seem to absolutely love the broccoli flowers. They covered them last year when pur broccoli went to flower. I swear it's the best honey I've ever tated. I did a taste test from our neighbors, a cousin's honey and ours and ours was the best. In my humble opinion of course. 😂😂😂

Catch a swarm and “bee” careful collecting the honey. 🐝
CA to TN is a huge change. How have you adjusted? I'm in Carmel considering a move. Love to garden and do so now in a neighboring community plot.
