Found this on a walk. It seems to be dried out. It is brittle and the petal/spikes actually hurt if you get poked by them.

    It’s a leave from the Aracauria genus of pine tree (think monkey puzzle tree, bunya pine). It’s a bit hard to say which species without seeing the tree itself.

    From a monkey puzzle tree. We have one locally – took a while to figure it out. Prehistoric tree.
    I think it’s also called a Boonya?

    There are a bunch of these in Portland, Oregon that a missionary brought back and gave away to donors in….I think the 1930’s? My area in Oregon has a lot of red gum that I suspect came from a similar source, because they’re all the same age.
