I can’t come up with the name right now but if you just stick the root end in some cacti mix it’ll pretty much do the rest.

Monadenium stapelioides AKA Pineapple Tree – although, not sure if the white is a special species. The left is the bottom, the right is the top. I would stick the bottom in soil and treat it like a succulent. Mine is small, but likes to nearly dry out. They love sun, and will grow leaves (the little protrusions on the top are the leaves starting)
Edit: Watering at the begining should still be sparse. They store water in their lobes and leaves that they will use to grow new roots. Too much water will lead to rot. If you notice that the skin is getting a little less plump, its time to water.
