Fruit tree pruning


Hey all,

I'm trying to reclaim two apple and one peach tree that we let get too overgrown. I pruned a bunch of dead and water shoots off of them yesterday but am wondering how far I can go to get them to manageable sizes. They all produced fruit pretty good the last few years. The trees are about 20 years old.

    They usually recommend no more than 1/3 per year, but those trees look like they could use the relief.

    I like to prune from the top down keeping trees shorter. So, your first pic for example I would take off everything above those curved top branches.

    What you’ve done is a good start!
