  1. Thanks useful information as always! I am feeling very happy in my garden life,I got a pin of the month yesterday and today I just came in from working a green manure in my garden beds( 😃 I got to play in the dirt) unfortunately my compost pile is in the shade so still frozen but soon.

  2. When topping your sunflowers, make sure it’s not a single stemmed sunflower or you will be sad. Very very sad. Those are a one cut sunflower, and you’re done. They need to be a multi branching plant.

  4. Good tips. Be careful with topping Basil. The more you cut it, the more bitter it can become So a few big thoughtful prunes/topping is better than more frequent smaller prunes/toppings

  5. With regard to bell pepper plants, 3 years ago when I grew them, my sister said I need to pinch off the top to develop a more bushy plant and more fruit production, which I did. The variety was Better Belle and pepper production was ok. Then I watched a great gardening video that explained why we shouldn't pinch off bell pepper plant tops, which can cause less fruit production. Last year, I didn't pinch the tops off, and what a difference! I grew Better Belle again. The plants had a lot more flowers and fruit production. One plant grew to 5 feet tall! Throughout the garden season, the 4 pepper plants were always loaded with flowers and had 7-10 peppers growing. I'm convinced the plants were very productive, because I didn't pinch off the tops. The plants branched normally on their own. Happy gardening! 🙂

  7. I'm so annoyed. I am on vacation Georgia this weekend and it will be 70 degrees in Michigan but its going to rain and hail with a chance of tornado in Georgia. The weather is following me!!

  8. You can absolutely top tomato seedlings to create double stem plants. I watched this method last year on a different channel and experimented with it during the off season. Once the 4th set of true leaves just starts to appear, you top it to right above the cotyledon leaves. In a few days it will put out 2 growing tips from that spot. It set my plants back by about 3 weeks. This season I will be starting some tomatoes 3 weeks early to allow for this.

  9. I had broccoli that lived for 2+ years and I cut "branches" or sections off throughout … cauliflower hasn't ever grown well for me, but from what I understand it's a one time harvest plant. The climate I'm in currently is a bit too harsh, but I still bring in my favorite peppers for the next year. I should be more mindful about pruning. I'm going to try this on some of my plants. 😃

  10. Does Sage actually get going pretty fast? I've tried growing celery and heard about starting rosemary from seed, and those both take forever to stop being tiny and slow growing.

  11. One of my favorite plants is Sage because I love just how bushy and beautiful they are. I cannot wait to try topping a couple and seeing the difference 🥰 they're 4 weeks old now
