But seriously, does anyone have tips on gnats? I have used mosquito dunks for a couple of months and I guess they didn't work? I have lots of cuttings in water and the gnats love that. Can I add something to the water that won't hurt baby roots

I happened to be playing Heilung at the time, perfect comedic timing.

I’d still drink that tea lolol I get a spray bottle and put a little Dawn dish soap in it and spray the tops of my pots. Not a lot, just enough to have a few bubbles on top. The gnats get stuck in the bubbles. I’ve never had a problem with my plants dying or anything.

Edit: Dawn dish soap mixed with water so it’s just soapy water.

I was at my wits’ end after months of dealing with gnats. Before I lost my mind, I tried everything—mosquito dunk tea water, letting plants dry out between waterings, sticky traps, and hydrogen peroxide—but nothing worked. So I went nuclear, and seven days later, I’ve only caught 1-2 gnats on my sticky traps.

I repotted my worst-infected plants, but before doing so, I treated the new soil with tons of mosquito dunk water (my infestation started with potting soil 😅) crushed up mosquito dunks into the soil, and let it dry in the sun for 7-8 days. When I repotted, I used clear nursery pots with a 50/50 mix of perlite and potting soil, threw out the old soil, and rinsed the roots (which were covered in eggs and larvae). I also added a pack of nematodes (Plant Poppers) to the soil and topped off every plant in my house with sticky traps, a 1cm layer of sand, and a 1cm layer of perlite. On top of that, I applied concentrated BTI and have been consistently watering with mosquito dunk tea.

I also ordered the Bonide systemic granules but haven’t even needed to use them yet since I’ve barely seen any gnats (knock on wood). Good luck—after all this, I finally feel so much better!
