The dollar tree has wire wastebaskets that can be used as a cloche over seedlings.
I am a viewer who commented on your recent video that I would like to direct sow only; and this video is going to help so much. I really appreciate your responsiveness and expertise.
Thank you for the quick run down!
Great tips! Thanks!
Thank you. Great info.
Those animal barriers are handy when some winter comes back a bit – throw a sheet and some plastic over the barrier, shield the patch
Hi Gary,
I transplanted my Paris Romaine Lettuce, Tokyo Bekana Mustard, and Pak Choi into my garden. All of my transplants are doing great. My snow peas are starting to emerge from the ground, and I have assorted leaf lettuce seed sprouts, and cilantro sprouts. I have lettuce seedlings ready to transplant, I just have to figure out where. Maybe in my tomato bed? Yes, that will work perfectly. My parsnip and carrot sprouts are plentiful. The spacing on the parsnips is good, but I'll probably have to thin the carrots. I am waiting on shelling peas, snow peas, and golden beet seeds to sprout. All on my transplants are doing well, and so are my radishes.
I have one persistent problem—voles. It come from living out in the sticks. The woods surrounding, and on the property are full of them. There are more than three cats can hunt and eat. I've added two more sonic stakes to drive them away from my garden, and put vole treats down their holes (Vole-X). I have to keep it safe with cats and chickens, else I'd use something stronger. For me, the war against voles is an annual event that lasts about a month. Next winter, I'll strengthen my defenses by digging out the last two rqised beds and putting down hardware cloth.
The rainfall is increasing, so I am lookign for cedar galls to start swelling and turning orange. When they do, it is time to start spraying with Immunox or Copper fungicide. The leaves have started emerging on my plum and peach trees. Spring is almost here.
Let’s gooooo!!!!
I have followed you for a long time now, before you built that garden even. Been missing for a few years because of moving twice 🤮 and starting over. Now, my new greenhouse is getting the windows in and raised beds coming soon! You are the best so back full time now, thanks for all you do. Southern Oregon here😊
I got my carrots in and I have my peas soaking to plant tomorrow. Otherwise all my seedlings are working indoors. My garlic is really doing well this year. I did a ton, and some shallots too. The shoots are low and greening up as the warm days come. I composted my potted indoor/outdoor citrus and around my grapes outside. I am in Missouri 6a. When I pulled my straw off of the beds, the grass and leaves had composted and there were worms everywhere. It was so black and lovely. You were one of the first gardeners I watched a few years ago when I started. I grew successful brassicas because of you and I tried Kohlrabi because of you. I didn't even know how to start my own seedlings before watching you. Thanks so much Gary for everything. God Bless.
Thank you. Gary!
