Thinking of doing as much prep as I can (picking rocks and sticks) before the rain comes and then putting down seed Tuesday/Wednesday. This isn’t really “lawn” it’s an area around my pond where I established grass after doing extensive brush clearing. I put down a mix of Kentucky 31 and clover seed.

Late summer/early fall is the best time to seed cool season lawns.
Regardless, if you are you looking for information about how to overseed a cool season lawn. You can find a comprehensive guide [in this post here.](https://www.reddit.com/r/lawncare/s/pUsKCxyvwQ)

I wouldn’t go by ambient temps, you want to look at soil temps unless you are just going to winter seed and not care when it germinates. For optimal germination you will want optimal soil temps. I use this website to check current and historical soil temps:
[Soil Temparature Maps | GreenCast | Syngenta](https://www.greencastonline.com/tools/soil-temperature)
Next you would need to check optimal soil temps for germination for your grass seed. Another factor is if a hard frost hits after germination it will kill all of your germinated seeds so you also want to wait until the last threat of frost has passed.
I did all of these calculations for my upcoming Bermuda grass seed project and I know I need 70 degree average soil temps, and need to wait until April to avoid the risk of frost.
Maybe wait until the overnight temps are consistently in the high 40s. You’ll avoid frost but will prob waist a lot of seed from slow germ
