I’m not sure of what I could be doing wrong. maybe it’s getting too much direct sunlight in the window I have it in? or perhaps I’m not drying the leaves well enough after misting? any tips or advice would be much appreciated. TIA!

How often are you misting and with what? It looks rotted to me. Is the plant squishy in the center? Will it fall apart if you pick it up?

Any bulbous tillandsia needs to be watered very carefully and very sparingly. If any water gets into the bulb and hangs out in there, it’s going to rot. That pot isn’t helping, either; it’s trapping water around the bulb and reducing airflow, which airplants need.
If you do get another, mount it so the bulb is exposed to the air, and only mist the middle and tips of the leaves.
