  1. Interesting observation from my old homestead: peanut oil soaked boxes from a turkey fry event was put next to my garage in autumn (was going to burn them once snow fell), were covered with leaves & forgot about. The worms loved them. My 1st experience in verma composting.😊

  2. Thankyou! Been gardening for 35 yrs., definitely learned some things. Esp. that I've been planting trees wrong! I will be trying this awesome neglect method. 😃

  3. One question though, will you add acidity to the blueberry? I've only had success growing them in buckets/barrels of pine bark mulch with no soil.

  4. Don't worry. The only thing Tractor Supply sponsors are drag library reading hour. Dig into that. I'll never step foot in that place.

  5. Where does everyone buy their plant starts, fruit trees, fruit bushes, and others? I'll start, I get a lot of mine from MIGardener, Starks, and Gurneys.

  6. I have lots of clay and limestone here in the East Tennessee Valley. Do I have to do something different with my soil? It’s mostly clay. Very little soil.

  7. This was such a great watch. It's comprehensive, but not overwhelming in the delivery. I also really appreciate you mentioning accessibility. That is one of the biggest obstacles when it comes to eating healthfully in the first place, let alone trying to start growing some of your own food.

  8. It is SHEER total utter neglect – STUN. SHEER.

Also giving the plants plants cardboard mulch/copious compost is the antithesis of STUN.

  9. thats crazy you only need to water once. I'm starting my permaculture forest and am super excited. loved watching the new plantings. will prob need to call you on somethin in the future im sure.lol

  10. Amazing! Ty so much I met u when u were n NC. Haha well I met u on the internet w Bear:)) love u guys.

  11. Didn't know about the facing the graft toward the wind. Thank for that. Great info about tree guilds. I'll be referring back to this video when I plant my guilds this spring. Thank you for all you do and God bless y'all!

  12. Oh my goodness, planning on a uhaul for my cattle panels, fencing, lumber etc. Thanks for the feeling of solidarity, I was feeling sillyb😂

  13. Haven’t heard of this but i have several fruit trees growing but not well yet established roots when i dug one up. Soooo I plan to dovthis to all those fruit trees and see if it will help them grow & bear some fruit!

  14. I have been experimenting with carboard here in the PNW, and ive found a layer of shredded (with a heavier duty paper shredder) cardboard works even better for water infiltration at least in this environment. I use it under my meat rabbitry, then move it to the plants once its mixed well with rabbit manure, and it works really well.

  15. Pasture Raised PIMP, great video as always. I agree with some of your commenters that a follow up video of past planting would be informative. God Bless from TN.

  16. I got a Sam Houston peach from tractor supply and it had roots trimmed back so far that I cut the top back by half and planted it in a tree pot so I could keep it nearer the house and baby it until it grew some roots. It had clearly HAD really good roots but they spread out instead of down and were just cut off. I almost just returned it but I'm pretty sure it will live.

At least with bare root trees you can see what's going on. Imagine if a nursery had bought that tree, potted it, and then sold it to me in the pot? I'd have no idea it needed extra care.

The strategic neglect will have to wait until I get it in the ground next year. 😂

  17. Sam's Club has the best deal I've found so far. 40 strawberries, 24 asparagus, 24 potato tubers, 2 elderberry, 2 blackberries, each pack for $13 and multiple different varieties to chose from. The only thing they don't sell are trees…

  18. We planted 2 of these Sam Houston peaches last spring, just as you did. They are not doing well but we will go back & build a guild to see if that helps. We're a few hours south of you in East Texas! 👋

  19. So much great information! Thank you! I love that you planted right into the grass, then added the cardboard and mulch, many times you hear that it's important to kill the grass somehow first. Thank you for making this simple!

  20. Thanks! I just bought my first trees and designed a guild plan before seeing this video and am pleased to know that I planned it well. I have a hard time getting affordable trees in fall where I live but droughts are not common so hopefully this planting goes well. I’ll keep the wind in mind when considering the position of the tree.

  21. #permacultureq&a – where do grape vines and kiwi vines go in a guild – I have reclaimed about 20×60 feet of lawn – mostly full sun to plant 5 fruit trees, 2 nut trees, strawberries, berry bushes, herbs, and some other annuals and perennials – I can certainly "trellis the vine fruits" I am mostly interested in what options you recommend – this is a several year project, so I can do temporary structures etc.

  22. Dang I would love to see an update to this! I would definitely do this if I had the space.

  23. I'm carnivore too. and gardening is something i am having a hard time being motivated to do since i am not really going to be eating much of anything I'd grow. since i am carnivore and in the burbs, the only animal i can raise is quail. I'd love to know what to plant to support raising quail here in south texas.

  24. Cannas? You can save seeds and plant those out. I've saved seed for years with good effect. I select for red and orange. Love all you share! Thank you.

  25. Is it worth waiting for the fall if you have a lot of fruit trees to plant?
We are behind on getting things started and I'm a bit impatient to get things moving.
I have the ability to irrigate and baby them through their first year. We just have a tendency that life gets in the way of plans and I'm a bit fearful of trying to wait for fall and having something come up/happen again 😅

We are in texas just a little bit south of you.
