It can. some things to watch out for though – if you water at the top only, with well drained potting media, you will likely wash nutrients toward the bottom of the stack and it can be hard to manage the health of the plants evenly from top to bottom. on the other end of the spectrum, if you use heavy soil or potting mix with water retention beads – you can end up with too much nutrient at the top and burn delicate plants with bottom plants starved. I have used stacks like this with hydroponic watering but didn’t reclaim the pass through. foliar feeding is helpful also. Trim the runners regularly or you will end up with something that looks like Cousin It.
