Just had this system installed this fall. It's my first septic system. Does this being this far up look right. Its directly behind my house like coming out my backdoor and to bring the lids level for that area were talking tandum fulls of dirt. I have no idea what should be right or wrong just looking for information. Thanks

Yeah, those are risers. The actual tank is down there a couple of feet. You need to open it up and see how far down, but depending on your area might be just right.

  2. After spending days digging to find mine, I would have absolutely loved risers like that. Not only does it make it easy for inspection and service, you dont have to worry about somone driving a car or tractor over your tank. Maybe hide them with some garden fence, lattice, or a wooden shelter you can easily move?

They’re good. Imagine trying to find that at ground level, or underground level after a couple of years, in heavy snow.

If say those risers are way to tall. Most tanks on the inlet side will be close to 1-2 ft deep and on the outlet side they could be 1 ft. I’ve always buried the cap so that I’d have 8 to 15 inches of loam on top.

Make a sketch of where they are for future pumps/inspections. You can even go so far as to place an unnoticeable marker in the soil above each ie. Cobblestone

Is there something in the building codes in your area that requires them to be above ground so much? All the tanks I’ve seen are anywhere from 12″ below to right at ground level.

But either way you definitely want those risers for ease of access for maintenance. Digging up the lids kinda sucks.
