Hello,
Making this post on behalf of my friend. Her cat is having kidney issues and she’s afraid it’s the lilies in her garden that did it. The vet is asking what kind of lilies they are. Unfortunately they’re not in bloom yet, but my friend has pics of the bulb and things.
Any thoughts appreciated! Thank you!

Those are Lilies? They look like flowering onion, genus *Allium*.

I was going to say daylilies but they have sort of tubers instead of bulbs. Hopefully that crosses at least one plant out for you.

  3. That looks like montbretia/crocosmia to me, but I guess your friend would know what she has planted in her own garden

  4. VapoursAndSpleen

Agapanthus maybe? It’s in the amaryllis family.

  5. If your friend is familiar with the flowers in her garden when they’re in bloom but just doesn’t have photos, she might have luck looking at pictures of different kinds of lilies to see which ones match with what she remembers. And also photos of other plants they may have thought were lilies, like daffodils and irises.

After some googling, the plant in the photo might be a Dutch iris? I am very much not an expert though

Pull some up and look at the root.

I think these are irises, but looking at the root will really help. Not allium for sure though.

  7. Those are Hemerocallis , also known as daylillies

They are definitely NOT asiatic lilies, they grow with a single stem from the bulb. These look more like daffodils to me but could be crocosmia as someone mentioned. Not Day Lily either, they are more a tuber rather than a bulb.

Where are you located? Or what zone? These look like they are in the genus *Narcissus* based on the grass like linear leaves and the brown skinned ovoid bulb. Lilies all have leaves that go up a long stem topped with the flowers, looking more like golden rod than an onion (of course Tulips are in the lily family, but everyone knows 🌷 this Tulip)

To me they look like narcissus not lilies.

I may be very wrong, but I’ve never seen a cat eat any garden plants other than grass. Lilies might be a problem if they are flowering and the cat gets pollen on their fur, which they then lick off, but that won’t be an issue at this time of year.

These look a lot like Crinum Asiaticum, AKA Crinum Lily/Spider Lily. I pulled a bunch of these out of my yard and they had the exact same bulb and leaf shape.

*I am not an expert though.*

Looks like the horrible bluebell flowers that I can’t eliminate from my yard.

I identified it with an app and it gives a 87% chance of being cyperus rotundus

  14. From the look of the bulbs it’s something in the Amaryllidaceae, most of which would be poisonous if eaten by a cat. My guess would be some sort of Crinum or Nerine.

That’s either amaryllis, the other one which I forget the name of which is in a similar family tree or some kind of wild onion or garlic.

I would go more with amaryllis/narcissus.

I grow all of these in my garden.

    Definitely poisonous to cats

Amaryllis? Highly toxic and these leaves look similar.

  17. Another possibility is death camas. The bulb especially looks like that.
