Growing vegetables in a container garden in March is a rewarding and manageable way to kick-start your gardening season, especially in temperate regions like the UK. Here’s a step-by-step guide to get you started:
Choosing Your Containers
Size Matters: Select containers that are large enough to accommodate the root systems of your chosen vegetables. A minimum depth of 12-18 inches is ideal for most crops.
Drainage: Ensure your containers have adequate drainage holes to prevent waterlogging and root rot.
Selecting Vegetables
Cool-Season Crops: March is perfect for sowing cool-season vegetables that thrive in the mild temperatures of early spring. Consider leafy greens like spinach, lettuce, and kale, as well as root vegetables like carrots, radishes, and beets.
Herbs: Hardy herbs such as parsley, cilantro, and chives can also be started in containers.

Hi Ivan – beautiful weather at the moment ❤
Ivan did you eat some of them ring of fire, Bumb burners.
Ivan another great video…can I ask your next video can you say the date….can I plant what ever in April that should be planned in March thanks
I'm amazed at your peppers Ivan! It's my first year of growing them and I'm so excited to see how they do. I started them on heat and now using grow lights. My husband keeps reminding me that in years past, heat mats etc didn't exist and you've just proven his point. I'll keep watching for updates 😊
It's definitely starting to feel warmer and my thoughts are turning to sowing and growing
Micro tomatoes would be good in the top of the green stalk 😊
Good to join you for another growing season mate, loved watching your videos for years.
You remind me so much of my Mom's Dad. His family were coal miners from England. Not sure how they ended up in a small town in the USA. He could grow a garden that was like a Disneyland for plants. They are both long gone and I"m now the age that he was when we would visit him and his amazing garden.
I’ve started a few things off and doing well.
Nice to see Ivan going to be more things to do now on yay lol.
Hi Ivan, thanks for another great video! Really excited to see how much you grow in the GreenStalk ❤🌻
Still waiting on the red onions to sprout (just sowed some more a couple of days ago). Got about 10 broad beans seedlings so far and 5 cauliflowers ( All the year round variety)
And sowwd some carrots out in a pot under a bell cloche. Think they were Nantes of some number. We'll see what comes of them. Nice to see you back.
The onions are out the lettuce are out the leeks are out trying my luck this year but I v got more in the greenhouse if any of them fail beetroots are out as well
It is a treat to have a video from you Ivan.👌🌱
Thanks Ivan, first of March and first day of spring so let's sow, great stuff. Take care and all the best. Stevie
Just ordered an original greenstalk today. Starting off a container garden this year so it's a big learning curve. I haven't started any seeds off yet but only have a little plastic greenhouse and don't have gro lights
Lets get them seeds sown now.
