I am attempting to build a fully insulated garden room for a tiny budget of just £500 using salvaged materials and some creative thinking. In this episode I frame the walls and an apex roof structure.

  1. Keith, those packers around the double glazed unit only allow for expansion if you take them out before the final fix!

  2. The building is looking really awesome! Can't wait to see the rest of the build! You are a excellent carpenter 💪🪚! 😊❤

  3. Love it .. because I'm cheap 😊 My husband is a carpenter and is allowed to take home leftovers at the end of the job. Does the lumber smell like smoke ?

  4. Probably a bit rough for this job, but pre war houses often have a close boarded roof, which is heavy gauge featheredge that the tiles nib onto. No battens or felt. Often yours for the asking if they are having a new roof, and it makes a reasonable fence / shed cladding if you can find a way of preserving it.

  5. I scored a load of treated 2×4 plus some decking from a local Facebook group. Best bit was being paid to dismantle it and remove it 😂

  6. Hi Keith. I have done this Japanese method twice. Second time I linseed oiled afterwards seems to be more durable no carbon on you when u brush past it u might want to do a test as I'd does change appearance

  7. Brilliant video again Keith it's coming together nicely. must say your finding some proper bargons in market place i can never find anything that good. Looking forward to next part 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🫡

  8. Nice work Keith. I admire your appetite for reclaimed timber. However, not so much so for reclaimed glazing units, they don't last forever (ask me how I know). I just hope, that being second hand, yours aren't on the cusp of failure.

  9. The thumbnail on this was so professional that I assumed it was an advert and ignored it the first couple of times I saw it!!

  10. I’m doing the same thing now so it’s great to be able to do it along side you! I work in the film industry and the amount of brand new timber that’s skipped after only being used for a month is unbelievable. I’ve been trying to get my hands on some but frustratingly it’s not always as easy to save things from the skip as you’d think.
Adding up the expected costs of my build, plywood is probably the biggest chunk. I will be interested to see how you’ve saved money there. I’m hoping patience will pay off and I’ll be able to collect some in bulk from a contractors surplus

  11. Thanks Keith, it's looking really great, and you've done a great job in planning it out and preparing bits in advance, I tend to make it up as I go along so would find it a challenge to do that. It's obvious now, you didn't need to borrow my roofing torch, it looks like you got a real bargain there ! You're always very good at letting us know costs and timeframes, I can only imagine the work time and editing time that went into creating this 15 minute video, so thanks for that, brilliant job !

  12. You e got to add up the fuel and screws etc that you have already had in stock in your workshop otherwise it’s not a true representation of what you’re trying to achieve (sell to your audience) so there’s no way that the £500 limit didn’t go over by the end. But you will build a cheap garden room, the important word here being cheap throughout this build, it’s a shed with stud walls. Using old school methods in damp resistance etc. A great video though on what could be achieved with a full on woodworking workshop, Milwaukee sponsorship and lots of fixings, glazing, and dry wood at hand from past projects.

  13. In the realm of DIY and woodworking here on YouTube, it's refreshing to see you still making content that relatable. I have lost interest in so many other makers due to their over-inflated budget for projects and need to go bigger.
Thank you for keeping it real.

  14. Again Keith another cracking episode from you, i said to you after last weeks episode that i was looking forward to watching part 2 and it didn't let me down, now i'm looking forward to part 3, so well done it's all coming together and it looks good, so far🤔TC.

  15. It's an inspiring build, and I admire your goal. However I do feel slightly misled with your budget. You've used hefty lag bolts, screws, ect, and that doesn't seem to be on the total. These aren't cheap if you're having to buy by the box. And I feel it's a very grey area with using what you already have as a "free" item. I'd imagine that the mahogany beads and the sleeper you used in this build most likely weren't free to you at the point of acquiring them, and aren't items you'd likely find discarded. But I'm enjoying the build, and am looking forwards to seeing how it progresses.

  16. I totally enjoy watching how you source and use material for your projects! You have become a genius at what you do. Keep up the great work!

  17. Great project! love this channel!
small question: why did you taped the red (some state in the us, start with M) power tools logo?

  18. I built a metal clad shed that's 20m² using 75mm posts. Literally got everything for free. Cost me a box of tecs. Even the screws were free. Go to industrial estates and have a look around. Most businesses have no issue with taking it. It helps to turn on the charm and immediately say that you'll stay safe and clean up.

  19. Keith, there's nothing wrong with being Titusaduckarse when it comes down to doing this type of project, infact the better you are at it, at times, the ending is waymore rewarding than you thought it would be. Regarding the wood you purchased and the birds mouths on the trusses was there any reason why you didn't do the burn process like you did on all the other timbers, i ask because it stands out like a sore thumb 🤪🤨😥.
Looking forward to seeing the results of the challenge you set yourself 🤔🧐💯%👍.
