Hello, I’m hoping someone can help me identify what weed this is. It’s grown this much in 2 months, and any tips on removing it and getting it to not grow back would be greatly appreciated!
Tree of heaven, Ailanthus altissima Also known as: Ailanthus, Chinese Sumac, Copal-Tree, Paradise tree, Stink tree, Tree of hell, Ghetto palm, Varnish tree
nilesandstuff
Tree of heaven.
Invasive, aggressively spreads via seeds and long suckers, sometimes smelly, and the main host of the destructive spotted lanternfly (atleast, its invasive in the US, not sure if it’s present or a concern in Australia)
You should definitely kill them.
There’s a lot of bad ways to deal with tree of heaven, but there’s only one truly good way:
Triclopyr ester mixed with kerosene and sprayed on lower 2 feet of the trunks of all visible trees of heaven. Best done in mid to late fall, just before it starts to lose its leaves (the time of year where trees send their nutrients back down into their roots… The triclopyr can hitch a ride on that nutrient expressway, which kills the roots and potential suckers)
