The soft side of the Velcro goes towards the plant. Make sure that your plant velcro is only afixing the stem and not the petioles. So for instance, on the bottom most attachment in the photo, you would want to move the plant Velcro to the other side of the petiole of the leaf that it is currently overlapping
eta: both your Velcros need this adjustment btw, both to put the soft side towards the plant and to move the Velcro so that the stem, and not any petioles, have pressure/velcro against them
