I know next to nothing about air plants, so I definitely need some guidance here. I ordered this guy through an Etsy shop with great reviews. The base and a good bit of the inside are very brown. The two pictures are from their listing pictures which shows zero browning on the inner part and a much less oddly shaped plant. The shop owner has assured me this is a completely normal healthy plant, but it seems so much more brown than anything I can find online. The leaves do seem to be well attached and not pulling away easily, so doesn’t seem to be rotted. It just doesn’t look like the shop pictures and honestly I’m kind of disappointed…

I recognize that shop (Spyloh) she takes great pictures, almost too good to where the expectation can be set a little high. The shop owner is correct though, it is totally normal to see brown at the base of that species. I don’t see any health concerns that stick out though so you are good on that front.
This isn’t rot?? I pulled off a bunch of leaves on mine that looked like this thinking they were rotted 😭😭
