Is it too late? I don’t know where to start

  1. Start with pre emergent/post emergent now. It will look aweful but that’s ok. Wait until the Bermuda next door starts to green up and then aerate and apply another round of post and pre emergent but this time add fertilizer and a bag of something like Carbon Pro G.

It’s not gonna be perfect for a couple years. But Bermuda is a beast and will spread fast. Your neighbor having it will help a lot.

The more you mow water and fertilize the faster the Bermuda will spread. Controlling weeds will be hard because you don’t have much grass. Don’t over spray. Or you will make super weeds that will be a pain later on. Just focus your controls on the areas you have good grass and about a foot around them so the Bermuda can spread.

Follow the labels and go to a reputable local provider for clarification on the labels not a big box store.

Mow the lawn super short, remove dead material with a dethacher, throw down new seed and keep it watered. Toss down some starter fertilizer as well.

It’s easier than you think. Forget about Trugreen. You can get at least 85% of weeds with a broadleaf post-emergent. You have henbit? Easy. So is dandelion.

I typically go with the 3 or 4 ingredient option in a ~$12 tank sprayer.
In the US, we’re in a prime time for crabgrass pre emergent (typically $23 – $55 for prodiamine granules). Some weeds like wild violet are stubborn and require follow-up.
