How to Grow Red Chili Peppers

Growing red chili peppers (such as cayenne, bird’s eye, or dried chilies) requires proper preparation and care. Follow these steps:

1. Seed Selection and Preparation

Collect seeds from high-quality red chilies or buy good hybrid seeds from the market.

Dry the seeds properly in the sun.

Seed Treatment: Soak the seeds in a fungicide solution (e.g., 2g of Captan or Bavistin per liter of water) for 30 minutes to prevent diseases.

2. Seedling Preparation

Prepare a seedbed by mixing fertile soil, sand, and organic compost.

Sow the seeds 1-2 cm deep and cover them with a thin layer of soil.

Keep the soil moist by watering regularly.

In 25-30 days, the seedlings will be ready for transplanting.

3. Land Preparation

Plow the soil well to make it loose and weed-free.

Fertilizer Application:

Organic compost: 5-7 tons per acre

Urea: 10-12 kg per acre

TSP (Triple Super Phosphate): 8-10 kg per acre

MOP (Muriate of Potash): 6-8 kg per acre

Mix half of the fertilizers into the soil during land preparation and apply the rest gradually.

4. Transplanting the Seedlings

Select strong seedlings with 4-5 leaves and plant them 30-40 cm apart.

Keep 50-60 cm spacing between rows.

Transplant in the evening or during cool weather to reduce transplant shock.

5. Plant Care & Maintenance

Water 2-3 times per week, more often in dry conditions.

Remove weeds and apply mulch to retain moisture.

Use pesticides or organic pest control solutions every 10-15 days to prevent insect attacks.

Pruning excess branches can help increase yield.

6. Harvesting

Chilies are ready for harvesting 2-3 months after flowering.

Pick them when fully ripened and red.

Dry them in the sun before storage to prevent spoilage.

Additional Tips

Climate: Chilies grow best in warm, sunny conditions.

Drainage: Avoid waterlogging, as excess water can cause root rot.

By following these steps, you can successfully grow red chili peppers with a high yield!
