Picket planters are such an easy and cheap project, everyone is doing it. Which seems to be the problem. In this video I add an astetic and structural change to a few of my planter boxes. No additional material,

  1. I am already overwhelmed by planter orders! This is my second season building planters based on your designs. Thanks again for sharing. 😊

  2. This year(my 2nd season) is gotta get a planer.
Any suggestions. The dewalt seems appealing, but pricey. I can't commit to that right now, my brain won't let me

  3. All I can find thats reasonably straight is 3/4" thick. I'm working on the adjustments for the plans. It's not bad, but a bit of a pain. I hate math.

  4. Cool stuff. Ever noting issues using pine pickets instead of the cedar? Built both, and if they are definitely going to be stained/painted, been using pine. After a light sand, they lose that greenish tone from whatever it is they seal them with. Turn out pretty nice. Another issue we have had with the cedar is the thickness. Have issues with the 1-inch brads going through them. Even if its just a bit, but its irritating. I do sand them all smooth instead of leaving them raw, so reducing the thickness a bit. Regardless of the setting on the nail gun some of the cedar pickets have been pretty thin.

  5. Thanks for this video. I think it is SUPER-COOL that you give away your plans – FOR FREE!!! I'll be getting started, today – as soon as I build a stand for my new table saw. Thanks!

  6. I was making these cuz of one of my buddies but because of your videos I started to make different sizes, but I been adding that extra sliver from the beginning because the first planter I made I didn’t like all the nail holes on the bottom so I started adding the sliver, I even made a 74”x38”x11” raised garden bed which takes 7 pickets to make ($28-32) and I sell them for 160 or 180 (with gopher wire) thanks a lot for all the videos and ideas you do

  7. My new fence pickets arrived soaking wet and are wider than my old ones by about 1/5 inch (terrible rain here recently). Should I let them dry under cover before using them?

  8. The extra bottom support is a great idea! I had to use other scraps though because my pickets started at only 5.25" wide, so the remaining sliver went towards making toothpicks.

  9. I just put my planter boxes for sale on facebook marketplace yesterday, I have a dozen two picket boxes and two three picket boxes. I sold 16 two picket boxes and two three picket boxes last spring.

  10. Thanks Aaron, I have just started making these. We have different lengths of timber here in Australia, and I can only get treated pine 😢, but that is no issue, I guess. Is there any recommendations for care of plants, I should be putting with my planters? I’ve done one with Linseed oil on it, but I haven’t lined them. The rest I have left raw, leaving the opportunity for customisation. 😊Thanks for all the effort you put into these planters 😊

  11. On the Bench Planter, I raised the floor. I used three 1-3/4 wide pieces, one each end and one centered. Then I put the floor boards in on top of them. Really strong bottom doesn’t flex. Thank you for sharing and caring.

  12. Oh oh- anyone know the shady website he used to use for his work plans so I can avoid it like the plague? Also- great video of the planters to get started on. Miss the singing tho. 👍🤘🌟

  13. You are my go-to planter box channel, and not only that category, but all your content has great designs, ideas, good humor, entertainment, and ease of understanding. Plus, sharing your plans is very cool. If I understand your last couple of videos, you discovered that brad-nailing through the sides provided less than adequate support for the dirt, and are modifying those designs with cleats, which you get by reducing the width of leg parts, at the same time making the legs more aesthetically pleasing by being more symmetrical. Gotta say, I was already considering both modifications, support cleats and symmetrical leg parts. But it shows your integrity by modifying your plans in this way. Thank you, sir!

  14. I’m hoping to try to make some for the first time today. We need planters pretty bad for a garden. Hoping others might show interest to make a few bucks. Love your content. Going to be fun to hopefully put my own blacksmith flair on then eventually
