Have you wondered why 5 gallon paint buckets and 5 gallon nursery pots are different sizes? The truth will blow your mind! It’s true: a 1 gallon nursery pot WILL NOT hold 1 gallon of water. By the end of this video, you will finally understand how to size nursery containers correctly, once and for all!

WICKED interesting!!
This only holds true in the US. For countries that use the metric system, the measures are the same. 1 ltr dry is exactly the same as 1 ltr liquid.
But now I understand why US cup and tablespoon measures for baking are different than ours (metric).
Yanky gallons are fake gallons, smaller than British imperial measure
OR, 6 gallons equals 5 gallons on a full moon!
Thankyou
🤷♂️
@themillennialgardener – I can solve this problem. "metric system" 🙄
I struggle to understand why gallons and pounds are still in our vocabulary. You should not have to struggle to make these conversions
Also a good reason why we should mix by weight and not volume….
I was JUST saying that I hope I live long enough to see someone stand up to Big Nursery Pot!!
#NotAllHerosWearCapes
I bet you fill up the 5 gallon bucket all the way to measure 5 gallons.
Guilty. I could not resist clicking on. I accept being a nerd.
Show your work! Unit conversion, cancel your units! Just kidding, thank you for pointing that out. I have always thought it was a rip off, just lazy labeling. When it says five gallon pot in the description online, it’s missing “dry” and that makes it a lie. Oh my.
The metric system is so much simpler! Dry or wet, a liter is a liter.
the US are desperately in need of the metric system
Lifelong nurseryman here, also it doesn’t appear as though containers are standard. The container you hold up appears larger than our number sevens or 7 gallon pots. Thank you for your content.
When spring starts to arrive here in the North East , I start binge watching this channel and several others . Thanks!
The 5 gallon paint bucket is about right with water, you still need to be able to put a lid on a paint bucket.
The fact that this had to be explained to people is a little disappointing.
This revelation on garden pot size standardization , is the only reason we would need so that all of us Canadians would come together and allow the US to turn us into another one of your fine State's.
You don’t think there’s a regulatory body that controls the sizes of nursery containers? Sounds like something my engineer husband would say, you must all be the same. Ultimately, the government of whatever country they come from, the businesses who make them. We rely on the control of the size of those containers, as do those who regulate how much soil is in each bag for raised beds, gardens & flower beds.
Wanna have a good laugh…
Google how to find nursery containers size formula…
I got conflicting info on same search results
Watch out where the huskies go and don’t you eat that yellow snow.
April fool!
I love your video!!! Love your humor! Way to go. ❤
You are always informative and educational, but I just LOVE your humor–you crack me up!!🤣😍
You could have said that tidbit of Gardening, in 4-5 paragraphs.
I🚯🚱🚷🚭⛔🔞📵🏮
I thought dirt, potting soil, corn meal etcetera was measured in cubic feet? And or weight was equivalent dry weight?
🖲🔞📵🚯
My guess if your buying dirt you are not that smart …
😂😂😂
When you buy dirt it is sold by the cubic yard.
A five gallon bucket holds 0.8cubic feet.
Helpful Helpful for us garden nerds who have felt gypped (swindled) ALL These YEARS ! I'm laughing at myself in your intro.
Hahahaha, I needed that.. Beautiful day..Pick your battles.. Don't sweat the small stuff..😅
You are a comedian, a movie star (acting was great)😂 and an engineer. Lucky wife! 😊❤
Btw it was super nice to hear her narrating Dale's walk in the snow 😂😂😂.
Thank you for a funny video🙏❤️👍
