In maltese we colloquially call it "tal-ingliza" (of the English) because in Malta it was brought in by the English. What is this called in English though?

Cape sorrel, it originates from South Africa. It’s scientific name is *Oxalis pes-caprae*

As a kids we called it “sour grass” and we’d chew the stems for their sour taste. Parents would try to get us to stop by telling us that dogs liked to pee on them specifically, but we knew better.

But yes, Oxalis pes-caprae or Bermuda buttercup or Cape sorrel, African wood-sorrel, etc.
