First time philodendron owner here and I’ve had my pink princess for a few months now. I ended up with some new growth but when the leaf grew out it was cracked and there’s this soggy brown bit that doesn’t seem like it’s going away any time soon. What causes this and how can I prevent it from happening again? Looks like I’m expecting another leaf soon and I want to make sure the same thing doesn’t happen!

Was the leaf closed for a really long time before it uncurled? Sometimes with these, new leaves can get stuck and if they are stuck for too too long, they start to die like this. I would go ahead and remove that leaf, as it is going to eventually die and it is using energy from the plant that it can redirect to other things when it’s removed.

For new growth, keep an eye on if a new leaf looks like it is stuck when it’s trying to come out. You can try a variety of things, like a damp paper towel, a humidifier, pebble tray, etc. But PPPs like humidity and when it’s not humid enough for them, they have issues like this.
