Is this lawncare service package worth it? (1/3 acre)

I paid less doing it myself, but it’s about what I would expect to pay for a service in Missouri.

The real question is do you feel like you got your money’s worth, or do you feel it could be done better? I simply don’t trust that paying a service is going to get the results I want, and if I mess it up myself, that’s on me. I’ve seen too many lawn service horror stories of skipped services and the lawn looking worse when they are done.

I’ve been paying for these services for a few years now. My lawn looks pretty good IMO. However I’m questioning the overall cost and the number of services. Should I look for a better rate from a different company and/or reduce the number of services?

    What’s it worth to you???

If you truly have 14k sq ft of turf that is a good price. I’d be at $140/app on that.

  5. I was paying about $100 per app on 1/3 acre a few years ago, but decided to go back to DIY

Is it one of those “national” services or a local?

Around me I’ve noticed there’s quite a few people that use a handful of services (since they have to leave those tags in the yard when they spray), and each has a different level of quality. There’s one service I’ve noticed that those yards have zero weeds and are so much healthier compared to the competitors.

My point being, if you aren’t sure I would see how people’s yards are that use the various services and pick based on who has the healthiest looking lawns. Doesn’t matter what it costs if your yard still looks bad.

  7. Yes that is a good price and even better if it’s a reputable local company. I pay $79 every application (roughly every 2 months) and I have <10k sqft.

The real question is what’s YOUR time worth?

  9. I have 1/3 acre (~9k sqft) and pay about $500 for a local, reputable company at around d $70/treatment. They use high quality products, do spot sprays, and give personalize suggestions for watering and preventative maintenance. I’ve spoken to the owner, who is very knowledgeable, extensively about schedules for overseeding, aerating, etc and trust their advice.

I figure I might be able to save $100-200 on product but the time savings and supporting an honest, local business is worth it for me. I still do my own mowing, overseeding, and other maintenance and my yard looks much better than all the yards managed by TruGreen or other big-name companies.

I’d charge you more for being a ravens fan!

Jkjk looks like a straight forward program to me. Only thing I’d question is the lime. A lot of companies do it just for the app $$. But if your area needs it, so be it.

    It is for me.

For the cost of the materials, and the time it takes, and the streaks that I put in the yard, well worth it.

You really only need 3-4 or those service really

It all depends on the quality of service you are getting. That app price seems really cheap for a yard of your size, but the program as described seems very cookie cutter and bare-bones. Do they do service calls if there are issues? Do they only do what the app is labeled as, or is that just generally what they apply around that time, but adjust based on the condition of the lawn/weather/etc.? Have you been a customer for a long time? Many local companies try not to raise rates on active customers. My company has people who have been with us since we started, and they are certainly paying us much less than the current market rate for their size.

If you are happy with your results and the company, it seems like a pretty good deal! But honestly, it is approaching suspiciously low for a yard of 14k sq ft or so. I also find it difficult to justify applying Lime every year unless there is something seriously out of whack in your local soil, but that is for people more local to you to decide. Same with grubs, does your area have constant grub issues? If so, it makes sense to treat regularly for them, if not, it seems like an unneeded treatment

If someone local to me was presented this price and list of services I would tell them it feels like a lowball offer of cookie cutter service from a company with a wide and varied service area that has 1 program that works ok for most of their customers. And to maybe give them a shot for a year and see if they are happy with the service and results, but to maybe also try and talk with the techs while they are on property to get more detailed info on what is being done each time, in addition to just more information in general. “Spring Fertilizer” could mean anything from applying Scott’s, to getting manure from a local farm, to commercial grade stuff you need a license for, to some “secret” local formula they swear by.
