Hello!

My rosemary plant is showing signs of distress and I'd like a more seasoned opinion, please. I've been careful not to overrated but, living in Michigan, my plant has been relocated indoors. Any recommendations or suggestions to get her through the winter? My apologies for the terrible photos!

Rosemary doesn’t like to be overwatered or cold at all. It looks like your potting mix may need more perlite for drainage. What do the roots look like? It may have been too wet & cold for too long.

I had a massive 5 year old rosemary bush planted in my yard (Georgia, zone 7b) and one cold snap killed it stone dead.

Mine looks similar during the winter, it seems to hate coming inside (Ontario Canada). I give it a good prune in the spring and she bounces back once she’s outside again. Definitely a needy plant, not too wet or dry. I’ve had one now for 3 years but have killed a few now.

Prune it off by half to start and root the cuttings in water or soil.

I had trouble with indoor rosemary for a long time. Then I thought of how, in Seattle, rosemary thrives outside. Huge, gorgeous bushes are in a lot of people’s yards where I grew up. So I kind of try to imitate that enviornment for it. They don’t like being completely dry. They like well draining soil. I couldn’t get a clear look on yours, but your soil looks a little dense. Is it getting enough light? Like, if you kneel down to the plants level and basically stick your nose in it, how much sky can it see? It’s needs to see a good part of the sky and be within a foot of a window. I water mine about once a week, when the top inch or two of soil is dry.
