So my flatmate has had this plant that started to look sickly and lost the majority of its leaves, but he won’t give up on it OR actually do anything to identify or help it. He complains about the lack of facilities around us to help, but I don’t think he’s even tried lol.
Eventually leaves started coming back and I told him he needed to remove the remaining sickly leaves or it will just die again and what do you know… (may not have been for that reason)
Tried a plant identification app and it said it may be a weeping fig, but I’m not 100% convinced.
The sick leaves have these shiny spots all over them and the colour has mottled. These shiny spots are now on the ground directly under the plant.
Please help me help this plant, or help me convince my flatmate to just get a new one 😅 The plant gets watered semi-regularly and gets a lot of light.

The plant is infested with pests. Either !spidermites or !thrips. If your flatmate isn’t willing to do the minimum then I don’t suggest trying to save the plant because it will take dedication and money to get rid of the pests.
This is a ficus benjamina, I have one, it’s a plant that, if cared for, really looks beautiful… if you’re not interested in spending money on it, I’d try a homemade insecticide and some pruning before giving up.
