Germination seeds seems so simple at first. Put in dirt, add water, wait a few days and presto! Little green sprouts occur.
Well Lavender is not one of those I have found out. For several seasons I tried to get Lavender seeds to germinate and mostly failed. I would always end up buying starter plants. Unfortunately they are not perennial here in Zone 3a naturally. You may get lucky on the odd winter if you have a warmer microclimate somewhere in your yard.
I came across this method of cold stratification that I have had really good success with and haven’t looked back!
This year I am starting 4 different varieties and planting them in various locations that are being developed as perennial herb and flower patches. Fingers crossed I find one area or variety that makes it through the winter.
