Welcome back to my garden! 🌻 Join us today for a February front garden tour. We are always shocked to see how much progress we’ve made in the garden in a month. We’ve removed the propane tank, installed a dry creek bed and even are making progress on the gazebo! With our last frost date coming next week, the season is off to a great start! 🌿 Enjoy!

  1. Everything is looking so very nice. You all have worked so hard and it shows. Just a suggestion – how about taking the dry creek bed all the way to the fence? It would look even more realistic. Whatever, it still looks fantastic , not a criticism. I am enjoying watching your journey so much. Thank you for letting everyone join in the adventure through your videos.

  2. It looks like no more freezing temps (at least for the next 10 days) in Zone 9b here in the SF-Oakland East Bay Hills not too far away from you in Davis.Your bulbs look beautiful even if they aren't as full as last year's daffodils. My tulips have not even come up yet, but they are working on it. Their stems sprouted through the soil over the last 2 days almost overnight. You have made so much progress in a year's time. It will be so beautiful this Spring when your plantings come into bloom.

  3. I wonder if your edgerite (?) metal would work bordering the edges of your driveway? Maybe a tall rusty iron frame over the cement box with vines growing all over it? Or another iron wall like by your sauna?

  4. I live in Southern California. Oranges and Lemon trees galore! And yet so expensive at the grocery store when you need a few. 😑

  5. An option for the something everyone could see is a flagpole. My husband and I love watching you everyday. We are in Oklahoma

  6. Lilac vine is beautiful but we have to watch ours as the tendrils get through the fence and destroyed it, so I have to be diligent about it😁

  7. Just enjoying your video, and found myself getting jealous, I'm in Oklahoma and it is 10 degrees where I am at this time. Enjoy your great temps! LOL

  8. You just need large boulders around the septic access cover and if someone hits them —- their fault! Is that mean? I see that a lot where homeowners are just tired of careless drivers.

  9. Your projects always go so much faster than mine LoL it’s fun to watch the progress. I need to upload some progress on my YouTube. I’m really bad at that. I prefer just getting the projects done. Your stuff seems to grow so fast! Mine seems so slow. Not sure why.

  10. I think your drive way is a wonderful feature to your property. The circle in the front is like having a personal garden tour as you drive in and leave… perfect for those who visit! Also, parking is a huge benefit ~ I think of all the thanksgivings when family had no place to park ~ it has been a problem but each year I try to balance that is only once a year so I won’t add parking… when I saw your property ~ it is inspiring to see that a beautiful drive can be incorporated in a front yard garden ~ and it works!

So, I am team drive way! Keep it and refinish it when it makes sense ~ I can’t wait to see that episode!

Your garden is developing in such a rapid pace! Great work! Thanks for all the inspiration! You two are a great team!

  11. How about a tall dovecote in that corner? Check out some Google inspirational pics of dovecotes in English country manors – or stateside. (If you're purchasing, one option is from "The Birdhouse Chick"; but YT also has "How to build" vlogs which you may find useful. A nice story of a dovecote is on the US blog, "Between Naps On The Porch".) Re the excess oranges…. could you not donate to a family shelter or food kitchen? If you contact one of the charities, such as the Salvos (Salvation Army), they will most likely send someone over to pick up from you. On another note, you made a great choice with the Hardenbergia violacea (purple lilac vine). It's a very hard-working, vigorous flowering vine that is native to Australia! I really do urge you to incorporate more native plants into your garden, especially ground covers which will help as weed control. I'm sure you are spoiled for choice with your Californian natives, but if you do come unstuck on choice, you can't beat our Aussie natives – such as, Grevilleas, Banksias and any other member of the proteaceae genus. Natives attract so many pollinators to the garden and once established, are incredibly hardy and drought-resistant. Native ornamental grasses along the dry creek bed would look amazing! Thinking California fescue, or any of the California bunchgrasses (provided they are dog friendly and not the variety that produces the kind of grass seeds that bury deep into a pet's skin!).🐾

  12. Its amazing how much your garden has changed over time. Very excited to see the gazebo/dry creek bed garden develop. While you were talking about the willow garden I thought maybe you should just take away the back of the raised planter and add more soil to create a berm there next to the proposed pathway instead. That way you wouldn't even have to remove the plants that are there yet.

  13. Hey Janey, if you peel your oranges with a knife, and chop them into chunks, you can bag them and freeze them to make orange ice cream. All you have to do is thaw them for a couple of mins, and pop them through the juicer (I have a Champion Brand juicer, and it’s amazing).

  14. I think something taller like a windmill or lighthouse or statue of some kind would be ideal for the septic cover. Something tall but also moveable in case you need to access it. A windmill would be pretty and go with that country vibe you’ve got going.

  15. Hi there from South Astralia. I believe your purple flowering plant is Hardenbergia which is an Aussie native climbing plant, they are really pretty and hardy. I ove how you are progressing your garren❤❤

  16. there’s a airport in lompoc that does the skydivers too. California girl here. That’s a great idea to take pictures of the garden Once a month. I’ve been planting and starting things from seed for we just put in a small green house. I just subscribed so I’ll be watching tomorrow

  17. Hi Janey and Jason! Quick suggestion …. leave your tulips bulbs in the ground and they may come back next year. I left my (2023 planted) bulbs in the ground after they bloomed last spring (2024). I totally missed out on them at Costco last year ('24) so I didn't get any new tulips in the ground at all. I have tons of them coming back this year though! I'd say like 80%. Beats digging them up and replanting! I'll be on it this year for the costco bulb release to add more. Just thought I'd suggest that before you dig and pitch yours. Good luck!! I love watching your gardens evolution. I miss your smaller lot tho, it was more like my own. Will you someday be on the Davis Garden Tour again?

  18. In the 2:09 minute I looked to the left of the parachutist something strange looked like a UFO or something. Someone else looked at something strange🥴 anyways I am so excited to see the gazebo .

  19. For your tulips, you can let them die back (leaves dry up) and this feeds the bulb. Dig them up and put them in the fridge. Plant them a few weeks before you want them to bloom — and you'll get blooms each year. And, grow your collection from costco.

  20. When you replace your driveway, hopefully you will do the front part of the driveway in P gravel and do the back portion of the driveway in asphalt. I think that would be a romantically stunning look.😊
