I accidentally tore off one of the stems of my philodendron. I have never chopped or propagated it before but now I have no choice!
Please can someone let me know if I should cut this anymore and to where specifically? I have no idea what a node is but I know it’s important to cut to that area.
Should I be propagating in water or directly back into the soil it came from?
If someone could be really specific I would be so grateful as I have no idea what I’m doing even though my plant is four years old!!!!

Edit : in the past when I have cut leaves off because they were browning, the entire stems stops growing and shrivels. I get more growth elsewhere but I would really like to prevent this from happening too.

The node is the slightly thicker part the aerial roots and leaves emerge from. Propping in soil never worked for me with these. I prefer slightly moist sphagnum moss in a closed bag or water propagation. Sphagnum has the benefit of preventing rot (as long as it’s not soggy), but has the downside of possible root damage when trying to take off the moss before planting.
I have an emergency nursery for that reason. Getting ready to start a second nursery.

I have sphagnum moss and perlite base. Then I feed it leaves that come off my other plants. It’s loving life.
