I live in S Louisiana, about 5 yrs ago I had my entire yard killed, chopped then leveled along with about 10 loads of dirt. I then put down 27 lbs of centipede seeds. Everything was going great until the last two years when we had summer droughts and couldn’t water enough to keep the grass from getting crunchy. Last year the weeds were terrible. I tried the Image southern lawn weed killer which helped some. I attached pictures of my current yard that I just mowed. The last 2 pictures is of some type of weed that pretty much took over last year. Some type of spurge I think. I would like to get a jump on taming the weed early. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Someone will chime in with their recommendations for herbicides. But I also want to chime in about 3 things:
– centipede needs to be on a high potassium fertilization schedule. Avoid high nitrogen, or frequent fertilizer.
– centipede likes acidic soil, between 5 and 6. Check and correct pH.
– you’ve been mowing WAY too low for centipede. Its never going to happy at that height… Especially in the summer.
Lastly, it can recover, there’s plenty of centipede. Just control the weeds and address the things I mentioned.
I fight this in my yard and Celsius kills it.
Second to last picture is Virginia Buttonweed. Pain in the ass to get rid of in zoysia and bermuda too.
Virginia buttonweed. As someone else already said, it’s a real PITA to get rid of (worse than doveweed). Only herbicide I’ve had any consistent success with against buttonweed is Blindside. It is labeled for Centipede. Try the split rate, as noted on the label, for best results.
Texas Native here. NO clue what that second to last picture is. That being said:
Centipede need very specific soil amendments. Check with a university near you, they usually do them for cheaper than labs. Soil amendments can be a step in the right directions for a surge in the weeds like that. But also for your centipede, you need potassium. Way way way more of it.
Balance the soil, the centipede will suffocate a lot of those weeds. Unfortunately if you’re trying to stay all organic it might prove difficult with THAT much overgrown weed problems? I hope it’s a good spring for you man!
You really need to get on a pre-emergent herbicide plan 3x a year. It will make the biggest difference once you get a season or two of control down.
