So I bought this monstera adansonii second hand about a week ago, and at the time noticed these little yellow-white dots on the soil that looked like either insect eggs or fungus.

Fast forward to now, and just today I’ve noticed these big mushroom growths.

💧 Over the course of the week I’ve watered the plant once, probably with a bit too much water. The soil stayed soggy for the following day or two, which I’ve heard can lead to fungal growth BUT I didn’t expect anything this extreme. How do I save my poor little guy?

☀️ the plant gets some direct morning sunlight where it is, which I have since realized is not ideal. Going to be moving it to a spot in the room with indirect sunlight instead.

I freaked out when my begonias grew neon green shrooms, but yeah, they are a sign of fertile soil and are harmless. If you still hate them, let the soil dry out or remove them!

Reminds me of Leucocoprinus Birnbaumii. I might be wrong though. You could post it in r/mycology

Bigger pot and more soil. Then water far less than you have been.

  5. They’re not harmful to the plant and are actually beneficial as in mycorrhizae mutual relationship to the plant. However the soil might be too wet and moisture retaining if mushrooms keep growing.

  6. I miss my mushroom buddies! I had a bunch and they died off. Now I worry my soil is bad

Flowerpot parasols 🙂 they’re cute — they’ll open up (like parasols lol) release their spores and die off; I always let em do their thing in hopes I get more mushy friends

I had a mushroom recently and it died before I even got home from work. Just let it be, won’t be around long lol

Better mushrooms than root rot my friend, they indicate healthy soil! They also compete with the other fungi in the soil, so if they’re this big, they have a decent size network down there!

lol OP’s progress through the comment thread is so adorable ❤️

  12. the mushrooms indicate the soil is healthy. Leave them or just pluck them.
